Updated November 2026. Written and reviewed by the Lily Hospice clinical team.

Evan Shelline (Evan Mark Shelline) is the Chairman of Lily Hospice’s Veteran Advisory Committee. A U.S. Navy SEAL veteran, he has chaired the committee since its first meeting on October 7, 2026. The committee advises Lily on hospice care for veterans and their families in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

Service

Evan Shelline served about a decade in the U.S. Navy, including about six years with the SEAL Teams, and made two combat deployments to Iraq with SEAL Team 4. After the Navy he directed more than 60 vessel protection operations in maritime security and counter-piracy without a security incident.

What he does now

  • Founder and president of VETTED, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business in Troy, Michigan that provides in-home care for veterans (founded 2024).
  • Founder of The Veteran Muster: All Present and Accounted For, a veterans-only gathering held in senior living communities across Southeast Michigan. No program, no audience: veterans in a room, and the conversation that starts once they realize everyone there served.
  • Host of the podcast The Veteran Muster with Evan Shelline, short conversations on peer support, the Buddy Check and our nation’s oldest Veterans, on Spotify and YouTube.
  • Senior Vice Commander of Sgt. Stanley F. Romanowski VFW Post 6896.
  • Speaker to service clubs, senior living communities and veteran organizations on what older veterans tell each other, the Buddy Check and leadership lessons from the SEAL Teams. His next public talk is to the Rochester Rotary Club on November 17, 2026.

Why he chairs the committee

Evan comes from outside the hospice, which is the point: the committee exists to hold Lily to a veteran’s standard, not to Lily’s own. He leads its meetings and its advice on how veterans and their families are cared for, from the first visit (“Did you ever serve?”) to pinning ceremonies and the Veteran Rapid Response team.

“It’s so important to honor and celebrate these veterans while they are still with us and not wait until after they’re gone.”
— Evan Shelline, Chairman, Lily Hospice Veteran Advisory Committee

Of the older veterans he visits, he said on Veterans Radio in October 2026: “I’m talking to him about things that he hasn’t talked to his family about. That peer-to-peer support is vital.”
