Updated September 2026. Written and reviewed by the Lily Hospice clinical team.

Lily Hospice provides hospice care throughout Dearborn Heights, north and south, at home and in assisted living, memory care and nursing homes. Dearborn Heights is really two neighborhoods in one city. When it incorporated in 1960 from what was left of Dearborn Township, it took in two separate sections, joined by a narrow strip of land, and it still has a distinct north end and south end. It is a city of about 63,000 people, with neighborhoods reached by Ford Road, Telegraph, Beech Daly and Van Born. Longtime residents live alongside a growing Arab American community, with Arab-owned businesses spreading over from Dearborn next door. Whatever the background, the wish we hear most when a parent or spouse becomes seriously ill is the same: keep them home, keep them comfortable, and keep the family close. Arabic-speaking families can also read our Arabic-language page for the Dearborn area.

How hospice starts in Dearborn Heights

Families here often begin at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital on Oakwood Boulevard, Garden City Hospital on Inkster Road, or Corewell Health Wayne Hospital. If your loved one is at Corewell Dearborn, our guide to going home on hospice from Corewell Dearborn walks through each step; for any other hospital, see going home on hospice from the hospital. The choice of hospice is yours, and you can ask for Lily by name.

When you call, a Lily nurse usually visits that same day, in the hospital or at home. We start by listening: what has happened, what your loved one wants, and what the family needs. If hospice fits and the doctor agrees, admission can happen right there, and we arrange a hospital bed and other equipment delivered to the house and comfort medications from a pharmacy that delivers.

In the first week, your loved one meets the nurse who will manage symptoms and teach the family, an aide who helps with bathing and personal care, a social worker who helps with paperwork and planning, and a chaplain if the family wishes. We are glad to work alongside your own priest, imam or pastor. One phone number reaches us any time, day or night.

Who can have hospice

Hospice is for a person whose doctor believes a serious illness would likely end their life within about six months if it follows its usual path, and who wants to focus on comfort instead of cure. Conditions include cancer, heart failure, COPD, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, kidney failure, stroke and Parkinson’s, as well as the gradual decline of old age. People can stay on hospice beyond six months if they still qualify, and can leave hospice if they get better.

If you are not sure, our Is It Time? guide and signs it may be time for hospice can help, and a nurse will visit with no obligation.

What Medicare, Medicaid and insurance cover

Medicare Part A covers hospice fully, as do Michigan Medicaid and most Medicare Advantage and commercial plans. That includes visits from the hospice team, medications and equipment related to the hospice diagnosis, supplies, respite care and bereavement support.
