The nurse examines your loved one, reviews every medication, answers your questions and, if everyone agrees and the doctor signs off, completes the admission. The first week usually brings visits from the nurse, an aide who helps with bathing and personal care, a social worker and, if the family wants, a chaplain. Who qualifies for hospice
Hospice is for someone whose doctor believes an illness will likely run its course within about six months if it takes its usual path, and who wants care focused on comfort instead of cure.
